From Yishun and Paya Lebar to Jurong and Novena, our Programme Managers were hard at work advocating for mental health awareness across Singapore on 10th October 2024 – World Mental Health Day.
Our Outreach & Partnerships Team (Loretta Song and Nadia Daeng Ree) conducted a virtual caregiving workshop as part of the Attorney-General’s Chambers’ initiative to mark World Mental Health Day and raise awareness among its staff.
The workshop touched on the challenges faced by caregivers in having to juggle both responsibilities in the home and workplace, and tips on how caregivers can care for themselves with the organisation’s support during the engaging hour-long session.
Additionally, the team had also set up an outreach booth to promote the types of support and services available to caregivers in Singapore.
The Central Team (pictured below) shuffled between Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital over the weekend, engaging hospital staff and the public as part of World Mental Health Day hospital outreach. Special mention to our volunteers, Kavitha and Margaret, as it was their first time advocating for CAL and mental health to the general public!
Our Programme Managers and volunteers also support caregivers in the western parts of Singapore – gathering at 7:30am for the National University Health System Health Together Carnival!
With a crowd of 1,500 people, the carnival brought together residents and community partners for a curated health and wellness experience.
A day commemorated to mental health is a day for us to also upskill and expand our knowledge. Our staff also attended ClubHEAL's Healing & Recovery Conference designed for mental health champions and had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions and exchange expertise with other social service agencies to further our collective cause.
This included understanding the role of persons in recovery as Peer Support Specialists, in the acute of wards of the Institute of Mental Health, how creative expressive therapy positively impacts those with mental health issues, and employers sharing their insightful experience having hired persons in recovery.
Some of our Programme Managers even met their graduated C2C Caregivers!
World Mental Health Day highlights the power of community and the importance of mental health awareness. At CAL, we proudly stand with partners and volunteers, empowering hidden heroes and fostering care and understanding.
