Dance Movement Therapy Workshop

There’s a bit of everything in dance. Dance is more than just exercise or movement, it is also calming to the mind, and soothing to the emotions. If you are a caregiver that needs to unwind, join Kayo Sakamoto, a Dance Movement Therapy (DTM) facilitator in her workshop for caregivers that aims to improve the physical and mental wellness of participants through dance and expression. Kayo is passionate about working with Singapore communities, and has a history of engaging with caregivers and with families of persons with dementia. Her 10-session dance workshop will be held weekly on Tuesday evenings, for one and half hours per session. About Dance Movement Therapy DTM is the psychotherapeutic use of dance or body movements to promote the integration of emotions (heart), cognition (brain), and the body in individuals. It can help manage negative emotions and stress by promoting a therapeutic relationship between the participants and the facilitator that emphasises the concept of “kinesthetic empathy”, or non-verbal empathy to participants’ emotions. Unlike a dance teacher, a DMT facilitator is responsible for creating a safe, therapeutic, and empathetic space for participants during a DMT session. A DTM session may be particularly beneficial to caregivers who have not been paying attention to meeting their own needs, as a result of juggling multiple roles or anxiety from their daily responsibilities. Details Start Date: April 9 End Date: June 18 Every Tuesday (excluding 23 April) for 10 sessions Time: 7 – 8.30 pm This free dance workshop is only open to caregivers. Please ensure you are available to attend all 10 sessions. Note: Participants may be asked for feedback about their experience
