CAL took part in the Mental Health Festival 2018, held in celebration of the 90th Anniversary of the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) on 9 September 2018. CAL’s Caregivers Support Centre, located at the entrance to IMH was showcased to the public, with enthusiastic volunteers supporting staff in drawing in curious visitors through a display of colourful balloon animals, handicrafts and titbits. Throughout the day, visitors came by to learn more about CAL and caregiving, and had the opportunity to take part in fun activities such as a lucky draw and games. The event was also the launch of the first nationwide anti-stigma campaign "Beyond the Label", bringing many organisations and individuals together to fight the stigma of mental illness. Showing their support were various Members of Parliament, including Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies. The 90th Anniversary event was a resounding success in allowing CAL to reach out to more caregivers of persons with mental health issues. CAL is thankful for the help of all its volunteers in supporting and making this event fun and engaging.
