Caregivers Alliance Limited (CAL) is a professional non-profit organisation in Singapore dedicated to meeting the needs of families and caregivers of persons with mental illness. While there are other organisations providing support to the community affected by mental illness, only CAL focuses exclusively on supporting caregivers with professional services. CAL was formed in October 2011. Our founding members are Singapore Anglican Community Services, Caregivers’ Association of the Mentally Ill and BinjaiTree Limited.
CAL’s vision is to improve the lives of family members and caregivers of persons with mental illness through education, outreach, support, referral and advocacy.
- Outreach and provide training to caregivers
- Identify and develop caregiver leaders who can provide peer support
- Advocate on behalf of caregivers of persons with mental illness
More than one in ten of us in Singapore could suffer from mental illness at some point in our own, or our loved ones’ lives. The most common include depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia. Ironically, mental illness often occurs at the prime of life before 30. Nobody chooses to be mentally ill. It profoundly impacts our well-being and productivity. The economic impact in work lost (both patients and Caregivers) and healthcare costs is significant.
When we suffer from mental illness, our primary source of support is often from those closest to us less than a third will seek professional help. Caregivers Alliance Limited is the only professional non-profit organisation in Singapore dedicated to supporting Caregivers of persons with mental illness.
