Pauline’s Story

Pauline’s Story

Submitted by:

Hi, my name is Pauline and I am currently working as an administrative intern at Caregivers Alliance Limited (CAL). I suffer from schizophrenia and obsessive compulsive disorder. I have been working at CAL since 2013. I perform data entry and other simple administrative duties. My 5 days work week at CAL keeps me occupied and helps me to learn new things. It is therapeutic and I am glad I have very understanding colleagues. They  would share their knowledge with me and encourage me. This makes the work environment very conducive for me.

Recently, my parents attended the Caregivers-to-Caregivers (C2C) Education Programme organized by CAL. After attending 12 sessions, they told me that they have learnt a lot about mental illness and how to cope with a loved one, while at the same time, to take care of themselves. This form of training is very important as there are still many caregivers of persons with mental illness in Singapore who do not have such knowledge. Without the adequate knowledge and skills on how to take care of their loved ones, many caregivers will get very stressed out and suffer burnt-out. Thus we hope that the C2C programme can reach out to as many caregivers in Singapore as possible.
